Frequently Asked Questions for Dogs & Cats

We know feeding your pet comes with questions. Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions about our food, ingredients, feeding, and nutrition — so you can feel confident you’re giving your dog or cat the very best.

About RAWR

  • RAWR is freeze-dried, complete pet food made from real cuts of meat. Each recipe is 85% premium meat, 15% functional superfoods and essential nutrients — and nothing else. Formulated by a board certified vet nutritionist. No fillers, no preservatives, no compromise.

  • Every RAWR recipe is formulated by Dr Anna Lineva, RAWR’s Lead Veterinary Nutritionist and a board-certified nutritionist — one of fewer than 60 board certified vet nutritionists in Europe. Recipes are independently reviewed by Michael Davies, an RCVS Specialist (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) in Small Animal Clinical Nutrition.

  • RAWR is freeze-dried, never kibbled. Kibble is cooked at high temperatures, which changes the bioavailability of amino acids and degrades vitamins. Freeze-drying preserves up to 97% of nutrients in raw ingredients while making the food shelf-stable.

  • RAWR is raw-level nutrition made safe and convenient — pathogen-controlled, ready in seconds, no freezer required. Unlike conventional raw feeding, there's no cold chain handling and no risk of pathogens like Salmonella or Listeria entering your home. RAWR gives you raw nutrition, with none of the risks and mess with frozen raw food.

Safety & Storage

  • Yes. Every RAWR meal goes through a final safety step that eliminates the pathogens home raw feeders worry about — so you get the benefits of raw without the handling anxiety. This technology is endorsed by the WHO, FAO and IAEA making it safe while leaving the raw nutrition intact. The result is shelf-stable food with the safety profile of cooked food and the nutrition of raw.

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, reseal the bag tightly. No refrigeration or freezing required — once you open it, just keep it sealed and use within the best-by window printed on the pack.

Ingredients & Nutrition

  • 85% real meat (premium cuts only — chicken breast, salmon fillet, beef flank — never meat meal or by-products) and 15% functional superfoods and essential nutrients (blueberries for antioxidants, pumpkin for fibre, salmon oil for omega-3, plus a precise blend of vitamins and minerals to make every recipe complete and balanced).

  • Yes. Every RAWR recipe is grain-free.

  • Yes. Every recipe meets FEDIAF guidelines and is designed to feed as a complete meal
on its own — not just a topper.

  • FEDIAF (the European Pet Food Industry Federation) sets the official nutritional guidelines for complete pet food sold in Europe and the UK. It defines the minimum levels of every essential nutrient — protein, fats, vitamins, minerals — that a recipe must contain to be sold as a sole diet. Every RAWR recipe meets FEDIAF guidelines. We don't formulate to meet the minimum — we formulate to exceed it, with higher-quality protein sources and more bioavailable nutrients than the standard requires.

  • No. Whole, named cuts of meat only (chicken breast, salmon fillet, beef flank). No meat meal, no derivatives, no “and animal by-products” hiding in the ingredients list.

  • No. Freeze-drying makes the food shelf stable by removing moisture — food stays fresh with no preservatives required.

  • Every ingredient is listed on every pack. If your pet has known sensitivities, check the recipe page before ordering. Single-protein recipes are best for pets with food sensitivities.

Feeding & Transition

  • Two ways. Dry from the bag — scoop the recommended amount into your pet’s bowl and serve. Rehydrated — add room-temperature or warm water (not boiling), let it sit for 30-60 seconds, and serve. Many pets prefer rehydrated, and it’s a great way to support hydration, especially for cats and pets that don’t drink much water alongside meals.

  • Daily portions depend on your pet’s weight, age, and activity level. Each pack has feeding guidelines on the back, and our feeding guide → walks through the calculation in detail. A 10kg adult dog typically needs around 140-150g of RAWR per day.

  • Our dog recipes are formulated for adult dogs (12 months and older). Our cat recipes are formulated for all life stages — kittens (not suitable for weaning kittens), adults, and seniors.

  • Gradually, over 7-10 days. Mix RAWR with your pet’s current food, increasing the RAWR
proportion daily until you’re at 100%.

    Days 1-3: 25% RAWR / 75% current food

    Days 4-6: 50% RAWR / 50% current food

    Days 7-9: 75% RAWR / 25% current food

    Day 10: 100% RAWR

  • Yes — mild, temporary digestive changes are normal whenever you switch foods. We recommend a gradual transition over 7-10 days.

    Days 1-3: 25% RAWR / 75% current food

    Days 4-6: 50% RAWR / 50% current food

    Days 7-9: 75% RAWR / 25% current food

    Day 10: 100% RAWR

If your pet's stomach is upset, slow down and extend the current ratio for a few extra days before increasing. Most pets settle within 5-7 days. Once adjusted, many pet parents see smaller, firmer stools because more of the food is being absorbed.

  • Many pets with sensitive stomachs do better on RAWR than on traditional foods, because real, whole-food ingredients are more digestible than processed kibble. Take the transition slowly (10-14 days for sensitive pets), and consider a single protein recipe to start. Consult with your veterinarian if you are unsure.

  • Yes — RAWR works as a topper too. If you're not ready to make the full switch, start by sprinkling RAWR over their current food for a nutrition and flavour boost. Many pet parents mix it 50/50 with kibble as a first step.

  • In our taste tests, 95% of dogs preferred RAWR to leading kibble. Real meat smells and tastes like real meat — even picky eaters tend to come round. If your pet doesn’t love RAWR, let us know and we’ll make it right.
